Teaser Tuesday is a Banana (and is packing heat)
Posted by Phoebe
What’s that you say? That it’s Tuesday? Did you bring your coat?
Oh yes, right. Teaser time.
Irene and Loril (previously) haven’t found his dad yet–but they have found what seems to be his brother. Under a less-than-savory pretext, they manage to get themselves invited to his home.

Oooh, this is moody. I like it when fantasy has a strong realistic foundation like this.

Thanks Jaimie! I like high fantasy and crazy SF, and I decided that I need the worldbuilding in this to be just as vivid–even though it takes place in New Jersey!
Ha, Karla, he definitely IS trouble. Big trouble.

A teaser on top of a teaser, telling us the boy’s trouble! I liked this a lot, mainly for the sense of place that others mentioned. I have been in rooms just like that (okay, my room as a teenager would have been a close second in messiness, except the smells would have been less garbage-y). And you’re right that even urban fantasy or contemporary fantasy can require just as much world building.

I can totally feel all the details here, I just feel like I’m in the room. You’re descriptions are amazing without being overdone.

Heh, Angelica, I’m terrible at not spoiling things. It’s all I can do to only tease, and not totally give endings away!

Daymn, Phoebe, you’ve got me all teasered out and wanting more (as is your job as an amazing tease). You give right the right amount of info, just a peak. Also, have I mentioned how crazy in love I am with the idea of mermaids? No? Well, I have now.
Love your work soul sister! X

Thanks Caitlin! Heh, it’s funny–I was never a big mermaid fan myself (but my sister? Had the biggest collection of mermaid related stuff I’ve ever seen when I was a kid), but through writing this, my love for them has really grown. There’s such potential for sorrow in a mermaid’s life, especially the lives of modern mermaids. And I love urban fantasy with a dark cast, so it’s right up my alley.
